Karnakar (Գառնաքար) village is located in the Martakert region of the Artsakh Republic, on the eastern bank of the Khachen River, northwest of the Artsakh capital Stepanakert; between Vank and Kolatak. According to historical sources, the settlement is mentioned in B.C. from the 4th century, under the name of Gerakar, it was changed to Garnakar. Ashot Galstyan, a resident of Garnakar village, was awarded the 3rd degree Order of Glory (Hero) of the USSR. The village has 50 houses with 180 inhabitants, 25 of which are schoolchildren and 17 preschoolers. The villagers are mainly engaged in cattle breeding and agriculture. There is a community center, a clinic, a club, and a school in the village.
