Tsmagahogh (Tsamakahogh, Ծմակահող) village is located in the Mardagerd region of the Artsakh Republic, on the left bank of the Khachen River. The name of the settlement consists of tsmak (forest) and hogh (soil). The historical name of the village is Vachar. It was a commercial center where fairs were organized. The settlement in the 12th and 13th centuries. The village consists of 60 houses, and the population is 260; 40 of which are schoolchildren and 17 are preschoolers. The villagers are mainly engaged in cattle-breeding and gardening. The village has a community center, a clinic, a club, a church, and a school. The school is named after physicist Andranik Iosifyan, who was born in 1905 in the village of Tsmakahogh, and is the author of 34 inventions. He was the chief builder of Soviet intercontinental ballistic missiles and spacecraft. Arkady Baghdasaryan (Arko) was born in 1945 in the village as well, who was Honored People's Artist of the Republic of Armenia, and participated in many local and International Exhibitions.
